This is an All-breeds Beef show running from May 14 - 18. A number of Australian Lowline breeders are exhibiting and some are also represented in the carcase competition by Lowline and Lowline-x animals. Lowline judging is on Friday, May 16. New Zealand, Fielding

The Future Beef New Zealand (FBNZ) Hoof and Hook Competition is being held May 10-11 May 2008 as part of Beef EXPO at Manfield Park, Fielding. The overall results will be announced at Beef Expo, Wednesday 14.Entrants need to be between the ages of eight and 24 to enter this two-day Hoof & Hook event which is well worth a visit by Australian Lowline breeders. Steers are judged from the time they are led around the show ring, till they are finally slaughtered at the works. At the processing plant the steers are rated on their ability to meet market requirements in terms of saleable meat yield and eating quality The participants are asked to source, feed and break-in a steer for the competition. The steers need to be between 380 – 600kg live weight, and less than two years of age to qualify. While it's too late to enter for this year, next year, this could be a great opportunity to showcase the quality of both purebred and x-bred Australian Lowline beef. To discuss it, contact Sally Yearbury, North Island Promotion Group, who will be attending this year's contest, or ring Rebecca or Mark at Future Beef on 06 323 4484 who will even advise you on how to get your local school involved.
